Natalia Morari: I will continue European path of Moldova, but I will not deal with “Euro-imitation”

I will be a President who will continue to guide the country on its European path, but I will not deal with Euro-imitation, independent candidate for the office of President of the Republic of Moldova Natalia Morari stated in an interview conducted by IPN News Agency. She noted that as head of state, she will come up with a number of initiatives aimed at improving the living standards of citizens and stopping the massive exodus of the population. The candidate promises increased salaries for doctors and teachers and 1% interest on home loans.

As President of the Republic of Moldova, Natalia Morari pledges to raise the salaries of doctors and teachers by correlating them with the pays of ministers and MPs by the 1:2 formula. That is the salary of a teacher or a doctor cannot be less than half of the salary of a minister or MP.

“One of the first legislative initiatives will be aimed at linking the average salary of a teacher and doctor to the salary of a minister and the salary of an MP, according to the 1:2 formula. First of all, we will lower the salaries of ministers and MPs. They want to increase their salaries up to 40,000 lei. Ok! But raise the salaries of doctors and teachers to 20,000 lei. If they want salaries of 60,000 lei, the pays of teachers and doctors should be of 30,000 lei This is how it is done in a civilized country because a healthy education is based on healthcare and education,” said the candidate for President.

Natalia Morari noted that the problem of accelerated depopulation of the country can be solved by offering cheap loans for the purchase of housing. She will submit to Parliament a draft law in this regard, if she is elected head of state.

“We propose the 1% interest mortgage system, the cheapest mortgage in the region, which I will suggest through a legislative initiative. In the Republic of Moldova, at the end of the 1990s, we had a problem with the noncompletion of cooperative blocks. When we were considering solutions to see where money can be taken for a cheap mortgage program of 1%, we found out that the Parliament then obliged the National Bank to lend to commercial banks at an interest rate lower than 0.5% and the commercial banks could impose a markup of only 0.5%. At that time, most of the cooperative blocks were built with these cheap loans. And the people gained and the construction companies completed their works. Cannot we return to the same practice? The Parliament then found a solution. As President, I have the right to submit legislative initiatives. I want to see the eyes of the MPs who will reject such an initiative,” stated the independent candidate.

If he becomes President, Natalia Morari intends to continue the European path of the Republic of Moldova, as the main foreign policy prerogative, but she will categorically reject the mimicking of the respect for democratic and European values.

“I agree that we must follow the European path. We are taking concrete steps in this direction. In 2014, concrete steps were taken. Last year, we received the status of candidate country, but it is noteworthy that we received this status not “because of”, but “in spite of”. If there had been no war in Ukraine, we would not have been granted this status. In the last four years, the government has focused on form, not on content, not on true European principles and values. I will continue this path, but I will not deal with Euro-imitation. What we see today is Euro-imitation. If you really talk about European integration, as the President you do not falsify documents to remove from the judicial system the judges who had the courage to cancel a presidential decree. If you are pro-European, you do not close television stations through decisions by the CES and a council about whose existence we did not even know,” explained Natalia Morari.

The interview with presidential candidate Natalia Morari was conducted instead of the first edition of electoral debates with candidates for the office of President of the Republic of Moldova, which was to also involve independent candidates Victoria Furtună and Irina Vlah, but the two did not respond to the invitation, even though they had previously agreed to participate in last week’s draw to determine the composition of the electoral debates on the IPN platform.

The series of debates entitled “We analyze electoral demand and offers” are staged by IPN News Agency on October 8-10, 2024 with the support of the German Marshall Fund of the United States and the European Union.

The second debate scheduled for Wednesday, October 9, is to involve independent candidate Andrei Năstase, independent candidate Tudor Ulyanovski, and Alexandr Stoianoglo, candidate supported by the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova.
