Pensioners and people with disabilities in the Republic of Moldova will benefit from a monthly food voucher worth 1,500 lei, assured the candidate for the office of President of the Republic of Moldova Natalia Morari. In an interview conducted by IPN News Agency, the candidate explained that the initiative will also stimulate economic growth by increasing the demand for domestic products.
Natalia Morari presented her manifesto for the October 20 presidential election, noting that poverty and depopulation are the biggest problems faced by the Republic of Moldova. According to the candidate, both phenomena are generated by the economic underdevelopment of the country.
“Besides poverty, I would place the problem of depopulation at the forefront. Everywhere we go, for the most part, we see elderly people. Poverty derives from this. If we analyze the statistical data, we see that 230,000 people aged 18-45 left the country in the last three years. These are people who are in the process of starting families or they already have families, have children and leave the Republic of Moldova. Abroad they get a job, start businesses, buy apartments, houses, pay taxes there. In this way, they fuel the economies of other states. That’s why we remain so poor here,” said the presidential election candidate.
Natalia Morari noted that to ensure the country’s economic growth, the President will appoint a competent Prime Minister and a professional Cabinet of Ministers. The basic objectives of the Executive will be related to economic development programs.
“There are many solutions and they all derive from the economy. The focus of the state and the President of the country must be on economic development. The head of state appoints the candidate for the position of Prime Minister and the Prime Minister is responsible for everything that means economic policy and the country’s development plan. I will insist that the entire agenda of the Parliament, of the Government center on people’s problems, not on invented, fake problems,” stated candidate for President.
According to Natalia Morari, the most disadvantaged sections of the population will be supported by the state by granting vouchers that allow purchasing only local food products. The initiative will stimulate domestic producers to boost their production capacity, thus increasing the amount of taxes paid to the state.
“How can we help the largest socially vulnerable group in the Republic of Moldova, pensioners and people with disabilities? One of the legislative initiatives will refer to the introduction of food vouchers of 1,500 lei a month for each pensioner. Where does the money come from? It will come from the stimulation of local producers. Each pensioner will be able to buy only local products with this food voucher. This means that local producers whose products are present on store shelves will see higher demand, will produce more and will pay more taxes. And the revenues will be redirected to pensioners,” explained Natalia Morari.
The interview with presidential candidate Natalia Morari was conducted instead of the first edition of electoral debates with the candidates for the office of President of the Republic of Moldova, which was to involve independent candidates Victoria Furtună and Irina Vlah, but the two did not respond to the invitation, even though they had previously agreed to participate in last week’s draw to determine the composition of the electoral debates on the IPN platform.
The series of debates entitled “We analyze electoral demand and offers” are staged by IPN News Agency on October 8-10, 2024 with the support of the German Marshall Fund of the United States and the European Union.
The second debate scheduled for Wednesday, October 9, is to involve independent candidate Andrei Năstase, independent candidate Tudor Ulyanovski, and Alexandr Stoianoglo, candidate supported by the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova.
