Moldova’s ex-Minister of Foreign Affairs Natalia Gherman was appointed head of the United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia by the UN Secretary General, IPN reports.
“I’m honored to be able to contribute to the UN agenda for peace, conflict prevention and sustainable development as Special Representative and head of United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia,” Natalia Gherman was quoted by UN Moldova as saying on the Facebook page.
In February 2016, Natalia Gherman was fielded by the Government of Moldova for UN Secretary General, but the post was occupied by former Portuguese Premier Antonio Guterres. In 2013-2016, Natalia Gherman served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova. Also, for a period in 2015, she acted as Prime Minister on an interim basis. Natalia Gherman was Moldova’s chief negotiator for the Association Agreement with the European Union.
