Prime Minster Natalia Gavrilița welcomes the adoption by the European Commission of the decision to recommend granting the European Union candidate status to the Republic of Moldova on condition that the country makes additional efforts in a series of key areas, such as the justice sector reform, the fight against corruption and the reform of the public administration, IPN reports, quoting the Government’s press service.
“Today we are one step closer to the implementation of the country project of the current generation – the accession to the family of the European Union countries. The Republic of Moldova should be part of the EU, while our citizens deserve to live better in a country in which the human rights and the preeminence of the law are basic values. We look with confidence and optimum at tomorrow and are ready to work to reach the standards of the European countries,” stated Natalia Gavrilița.
She thanked the public functionaries, NGOs, Moldovan citizens who settled in other countries and all those who made effort in the process of filling out the questionnaire and to prepare the country file.
The Republic of Moldova submitted an application for EU membership on March 3, 2022. The European Council is to take a decision on the application on June 23-24.
