Corruption has reached such a high level in Moldova that it has become the main impediment to the growth of people's welfare. Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița voiced this opinion during the introduction to the staff of the new director of the Public Property Agency (APP), Eugeniu Cozonac.
The Prime Minister said that Eugeniu Cozonac has extensive professional experience in the management of several large information technology companies in the US and UK. The cabinet has high expectations from APP in managing state-owned enterprises.
"We have a lot of problems that we need to solve - Arena Chișinău, the concession of the Airport, the Moldovan Lottery, etc. We need to clean up these enterprises, make them efficient, bring them back to their full potential and, thanks to them, collect revenues to the state budget. I want to firmly move towards development. I want to introduce effective mechanisms of corporate governance at state-owned enterprises and I want to bring professionals to management positions, professionals that take pride in the results of their work", Natalia Gavrilița was quoted as saying in a cabinet press release.
Eugeniu Cozonac thanked the cabinet for the trust placed in him and said that he would take a pragmatic approach to the management of the Agency in order to achieve maximum performance. "A new chapter starts today at APP. I want APP to be an example. I want us to have a healthy competition. I want us to be proud of what we do. I want APP's activity to be reflected in the increased well-being of every single citizen", the APP director said.
Eugeniu Cozonac has been appointed as the APP director on August 26. The former director, Ghenadie Țepordei, was relieved of his duties on August 9, based on his resignation.
