The Government is working on new mechanisms that will enable all the mayor’s offices to access local development funds. These will allow implementing projects involving two-three mayor’s offices simultaneously so as to solve common problems, such as access to water and sewerage, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița stated during a visit to Ungheni district, IPN reports.

Premier Gavrilița said the €100 million in grant funding provided by Romania will be mainly used to implement projects in localities. Even if the Government had to deal with several concomitant crises, it has also worked on strategic planning, on policies of major interest, such as the fiscal policy, public sector pays and the budget for next year. The documents will be broadly debated.

This year, Ungheni district will receive 55.4 million lei from the Road Fund for repairing and maintaining roads. Foreign funds will be used to rehabilitate the Chisinau-Ungheni-Sculeni national road, on a section of 22 km, and the Pîrlița – Nisporeni road, on a section of 11 km.

A sum of 76 million lei will be allocated from the National Regional and Local Development Fund for implementing two water supply projects in Ungheni district in 2022-2024. The European Union will finance a €6.5 million water supply project in the region to rehabilitate 12.4 km of water pipelines and to build 5.4 km of water pipes and 5.6 km of sewer pipes. This year, an energy efficiency project will be launched at the Ungheni Lyceum “Mihai Eminescu”.

The mayor of the municipality of Ungheni Alexandru Ambros asked for the Government’s involvement to open a carabineer unit that would serve the whole region. The mayor of Cornești town Vera Buga spoke about the necessity of urgently completing the construction of the local water pipeline. Other mayors signaled problems related to the implementation of public procurement contracts.
