Customs Service (SV) must be run by an honest and courageous person. In addition, the future head of the SV should have his/her institution development vision, must understand how both the state and private sectors work in the economy area. The statement belongs to the Minister of Finance, Natalia Gavriliță, and was made during "O nas" program, Jurnal TV. The final stage of selecting one of the two candidates for the position of SV head should take place on Thursday, October 31, IPN reports.

Natalia Gavriliță says that the future leadership of the Customs Service must understand that things should be viewed as a whole and should not focus, for example, only on collecting taxes and fees at the border. "For the country it is important to be protected from smuggling and here the Customs Service has a key role", continued the minister.

 Also, Natalia Gavriliță contends that there should be no competition between the Customs Service and the Fiscal Service regarding the accumulation of taxes. In her opinion, SV should offer services, but not just represent a body that deals with sanctioning entrepreneurs. "For us it is important that money comes into the budget, but we must focus on the development of business and economy," specified Natalia Gavriliță.

The minister says that the final stage, of interviewing the candidates, will take place with open doors. This means that journalists will be able to attend, but will not be allowed to make recordings.

Economic expert Viorel Gârbu says that the Customs Service is a very important link, including for the economy of the Republic of Moldova, because the state budget is made up of approximately 50% of the revenues coming through the Customs Service. In addition, the Customs Service contributes to the image of the Republic of Moldova because foreigners first get in contact with the Customs Service when they come to Moldova.

Two candidates were admitted to the final stage of the competition for the position of Customs Service chief: Natalia Calenic and Iurie Gorea.
