Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița requested the World Bank to provide flexible non-reimbursable financing that is needed to support the population during the crises generated by the war in Ukraine. The subject was discussed in a meeting of the Premier and the President of the World Bank Group David Malpas in Washington, IPN reports, quoting the Government’s press service.

Premier Gavrilița said that to reform the key sectors, Moldova should obtain access to more flexible financing, while the existing projects should be implemented faster, for the people’s benefit. Given the current energy venerability in Moldova, the energy interconnection projects and projects to improve the quality of heat supply services become more important.

In this connection, David Malpas said the World Bank will remain a reliable partner of the Republic of Moldova, with essential contributions for overcoming the existing difficulties and doing long-term reforms. In the immediate period, there will be worked out a new strategy of partnership with Moldova.

In another meeting with Special Assistant to the U.S. President and Senior Director for Europe at the National Security Council Amanda Sloat, the Moldovan official underlined the importance of the United States’ assistance in alleviating the economic impact of the regional security crisis and in advancing the democratic reforms promoted by the Moldovans authorities.

In a discussion with the Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Treasury Wally Adeyemo, Natalia Gavrilița reaffirmed the government team’s European integration commitment, underlining the necessity of implementing the EU pre-accession reforms. For his part, the U.S. official confirmed the U.S. support offered to the people of Moldova for overcoming all the current obstacles.

The Premier also encouraged the U.S. companies to invest in Moldova, saying the Government of the Republic of Moldova remains committed to building a business climate favorable for internal and foreign investments. The call was made in a meeting with representatives of the American-Central European Business Association (ACEBA).

The representatives of the U.S. companies proposed organizing a business mission to Chisinau in September. They also spoke about the projects proposed for implementation in Moldova, including for developing customs infrastructure, working out digital solutions and building capacities in the renewable energy sector.
