Names of those killed in Nistru war to appear on Triumphal Arch

The names of those who died in the 1991-1992 war for defending Moldova’s integrity and independence will be written on the Triumphal Arch in central Chisinau. It was not yet decided whether there will be set up one commemorative plaque or four – by one on each of the four columns of the Triumphal Arch, Info-Prim Neo reports. The proposal was discussed in a meeting of the governmental commission for organizing the events dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the start of the armed conflict. Chairman of the League of Veterans of Moldova’s Armed Forces Nicolae Petrica said there are over 200 names that must be imprinted on the commemorative plaque. “It is an initiative aimed at making public the names of the heroes who died in the Nistru war so that the people know them,” said the general. A monument to the heroes killed in battle will be built up in Cantemir town. There will be made a documentary about the conflict, while the soldiers and volunteers who took part in the war will receive commemorative medals.
