The scenario of a Russian attack on the Republic of Moldova should be examined seriously, but without panic. Propaganda is one of Moscow’s weapons and the dissemination of such information is aimed at creating panic in the Republic of Moldova, said Mykhailo Podolyak, an Adviser to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine. According to the official, if there are excesses on the part of Russia against the Republic of Moldova, Chisinau will receive assistance from Ukraine, from the international community and particularly from Romania, IPN reports.
The presidential adviser noted that the Transnistrian region is a hotbed of instability in the region. Therefore, any attempt by Russia to attack Ukraine through the territory of the separatist region will meet with the resistance of the Ukrainian army. Kyiv discusses with Chisinau eventual scenarios concerning the involvement of the Transnistrian region in the war. For now an escalation of the conflict in the southern part is only hypothetical.
“Any attempt to enter the territory of Ukraine will meet with the active defense position of the Ukrainian army. If someone from the Transnistrian region enters the territory of Ukraine, all the necessary measures will be taken immediately against those insurgents. Russia has expansionist, militaristic plans to occupy foreign territories and annihilate the population. Our intelligence services watch over. They warn us that excesses on the part of the Transnistrian region are possible so that both Moldova and Ukraine should brace for any scenario. At the same time, the information about the possibility of a war in Moldova is designed to cause panic among the population. That’s why this scenario should be treated seriously, but without panic,” Mykhailo Podolyak stated in the talk show “In Depth” on ProTV Chisinau channel.
The Ukrainian official noted that if Moldova comes under attack, Ukraine will offer assistance to Chisinau so that Russia could not strengthen its positions in the region.
“Consultations are held between Moldova and Ukraine, between Ukraine and Romania. In the case of excesses, greater coordination will be ensured and, evidently, there will be provided mutual support. For Moldova, assistance will come from the European community, in particular from its partner state Romania. For us, as for Moldova, not allowing Russian presence in the region is a matter of principle. Any Russian presence in the region will create tension, causing permanent escalation of conflicts. Neither Moldova nor Ukraine needs something like this. That’s why Moldova and Ukraine, which de facto and de jure should be European Union member states, will take joint actions to prevent any expansion of Russia. Ukraine and Russia are sworn enemies and Ukraine will defend regional security till the end,” stated Mykhailo Podolyak.
He said that for now there are no risks that the Russian army will take control over the Nikolaev-Odessa region and Ukraine will not allow the Russian troops to advance to the south.
