Musical Disneyland at National Philharmonic
A concert of music written by U.S. composers will be given at the National Philharmonic “Sergey Lunkevich” on December 17, starting at 6pm.
Musicologist Irina Martaniuc has told Info-Prim Neo that this is one of the five concerts organized within the American Music in Moldova Project. Four of the concerts are intended for children and are themed “Musical Disneyland”. The fifth concert is designed for students. Two of the concerts for children were given in Chisinau on December 15, while another two will be held in the Transnistrian towns of Dubasari and Pervomaisk next week.
The program of the concert includes music by composer Leroy Anderson, George Gerschwin, John Jost, and less famous Moldovan composers.
“We named the concert for children “Musical Disneyland” because it involves heroes of Walt Disney. Every performer will play a role, like that of Chip and Dale for example. In our script, the children are actors,” said Irina Martaniuc.
The concert involves U.S. piano soloist Thomas Pandolfi, conductor Steven Huang, who have been in Moldova earlier, and violin player Michael Carrera, who came for the first time. “The U.S. musicians come to sing in Moldova as they want to do something nice for the children before Christmas,” said Irina Martaniuc.
Entrance to the concerts is free of charge. The concerts are held under the auspices of the U.S. Embassy in Moldova. Since 2006, there have been implemented three such projects.
