Munteanu seeks re-vote of chemical castration measure for pedophiles

Liberal Valeriu Munteanu, the author of the bill introducing mandatory chemical castration for pedophiles, will ask Parliament to re-vote the measure after President Nicolae Timofti refused to promulgate it earlier today, Info-Prim Neo reports. Munteanu claims that the President hasn't provided sufficient arguments. “The bill is to return to Parliament as the President refused to endorse it. But we remain on the same position. We think that the arguments brought forth (against it) are insufficient and, as the bill's author, I will ask my colleagues in Parliament to reconfirm their vote for this bill, which will automatically lead to its adoption”, said Munteanu, suggesting that the President has the right refuse promulgation only once. Munteanu went on to add that he considered the bill very important for Moldova and that it could “not be subject to any concession”. President Nicolae Timofti refused to promulgate the measure, which was endorsed by the legislature in two readings in early March, citing the constitutional principle that prohibits inhuman and degrading treatment against anyone, regardless of what they've done.
