Municipality spends almost 2 million lei on fighting chestnut moths

Chisinau local authorities allocated almost 2 million lei this year for fighting chestnut moths. Besides chestnut trees, all decorative trees in the municipality were treated. Green Spaces administration chief Eliferii Haruta told Info-Prim Neo that they have been fighting the Cameraria Ohridella moth for over 5 years and this year the trees’ contamination was finally averted. 1.8 million lei of municipal budget money was allocated for pesticides. “This chemical treatment of the trees is necessary, but the money allocated is not enough. In order to treat all trees in Chisinau from pests, 10 million lei is necessary”, specified Eliferii Haruta. The high costs are influenced by the increased costs for some important chemical components. Due to the high temperatures during the day the workers were forced to work at night, which implied additional expenses. An inspection of the National Green Spaces Inspection Station evaluated the state of trees in Chisinau as satisfactory, added Eliferii Haruta. The municipality’s green spaces span over 3,000 hectares.
