Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca requested the public utility SA Apa-Canal Chisinau to present a detailed report on the state of the sewer pipes following the torrential rain that affected underground pipelines and pluvial drainage channels, IPN reports.
In the July 8 ordinary meeting of Chisinau City Hall officials, Dorin Chirtoaca said the pipes managed by SA Apa-Canal Chisinau should be inventoried so as to determine where technical problems can appear in case of new heavy rain. The mayor asked that the underground pipeline going near the Park “Valea Morilor” should be moved closer to the apartment buildings so as to avoid possible leakages of waste into the lake.
In this connection, the technical director on production of SA Apa-Canal Chisinau Vitalie Midari said that the rise in the number of blockages on the streets during rain is due to the incorrect use of the sewer pipes. “The sewerage system was fully cleaned after the rain. We have a plan of action. In parallel, we check the end-users connected to the system. Violations have been now identified at 20 addresses. There were imposed fines of over 8,000 lei. The inventorying will go on and those who will connect themselves to the sewerage system illegally will be penalized according to the Code of Administrative Offenses,“ he stated.
Vitalie Midari also said that a stagey is being worked out for modernizing the ungrounded pipes near the Park “Valea Morilor”. A detailed report on the municipal sewerage system and the investments needed to remedy the situation will be soon presented.
According to the municipality, 30% of the sewerage pipes have an insufficient water storage capacity.
