Since 2020, the municipality has opened seven new routes and relaunched a bus route in the suburbs. Also, a new trolleybus route was inaugurated in the suburban settlements in the period. A number of 184 buses and 132 trolleybuses were purchased over the past four years and this enabled to fully renew the fleet of the Chisinau Urban Bus Company and the Chisinau Electric Transport Company, IPN reports.
“The Chisinau City Hall on its agenda permanently has the identification of solutions to improve the quality of public transport services, to open new routes, both in the city and in the suburbs,” reads a press release of the municipality.
Currently, out of the 33 municipal bus routes, 26 are suburban routes. Six trolleybus routes connect with the suburban settlements of Trușeni, Durlești, Bubuieci and Stauceni, while another route – with the city of Ialoveni.
The municipal authorities assure that the purchased transport units meet the quality standards and are equipped with an air conditioning system, low floor with a retractable platform to ensure comfortable trips for all passengers.
The acquisition of transport units also allowed the expansion and supplementation of municipal public routes. In order to ensure an even wider connection of the suburbs with the city of Chisinau, at the request of local authorities and the population, the relevant municipal services are testing new transport routes. The waiting stations are also being modernized.
Digital applications were introduced for paying for the trip and for obtaining updated information about routes in real time, the location of nearby stations, the arrival time of the means of transport at the station, and also the dedicated lanes on the main arteries of the capital city.
“The flow of passengers increases constantly. In order to fully satisfy the needs of the public passenger transport service, 700 transport units are currently needed on routes. The Chisinau City Hall constantly monitors the flow of passengers and intervenes according to the urgency and possibilities,” says the press release.
