Municipality found out about Paciu’s death on December 26
The father of Sorin Paciu, who was wounded mortally during elite hunting on December 23, works as an engineer at the Municipal Designing Institute “Chisinauproiect”. On December 26, one day after the young man died in the hospital, Ion Paciu filed an application to the Chisinau City Hall, asking to be allotted a plot at the Central Cemetery located on Armeneasca St, were to bury his son. The information was made public by deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu on January 14, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Nistor Grozavu said that on that day he did not try to find out more details about that terrible accident as Ion Paciu was very depressed.
“Chisinauproiect” director Pavel Cazacu said that the Paciu family had one more son, who died more than 20 years ago. None of the engineers’ colleagues insisted on finding out more details about the tragic death of Sorin Paciu.
The 34-year-old man, who was the father of a child, was wounded during hunting in the reserve “Padurea Domneasca”, which involved government officials, including the prosecutor general. The public opinion found out about the accident on January 6, after politician Sergiu Mocanu called a news conference to inform that Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubko is to blame for the death of a man during hunting and for hiding this case.
On January 10, at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Supreme Council of Magistrates deprived judge Gheorghe Cretu of immunity so that he could be investigated in this case. The prosecutors accused him of accidentally shooting Sorin Paciu. The same day, Cretu resigned from the post of vice president of the Chisinau Court of Appeals and from the post of judge, saying he does not want to affect the investigation.
