Municipality aims to reach vaccination coverage of 70% by end-March

The health authorities of the municipality of Chisinau set the goal of achieving a COVID-19 vaccination rate of about 70% in the capital city by the end of March. The subject was discussed in the ordinary meeting of officials of Chisinau services, IPN reports.

The chief health officer of Chisinau Boris Gîlca said vaccination against the novel coronavirus remains a priority. Specialists say a new wave caused by Omicron is approaching. “The fuss before the holidays and after them, the crowdedness in airports, when four-five flights land and all the passengers crowd around, only favor the spread of COVID-19. Regrettably, experts anticipate a new wave at the start-end of January or the start of February,” stated the official.

The vaccination rate in the municipality of Chisinau is now 43%. “Yes, this is the highest rate in the country, but is yet insufficient,” said Boris Gîlca, noting the addresses where the two mobile vaccination units will operate in the capital city were already decided.

The cases of COVID-19 in Moldova exceeded 376,000 since the start of the pandemic. Over 10,000 people succumbed to diseases caused by the virus.
