Municipality about fire in Chisinau: It didn’t occur on territory of Central Market

The Chisinau City Hall came with a reaction following the fire that occurred in the capital city on Saturday, December 17. According to the municipal authorities, the fire didn’t happen on the territory of the Central Market, IPN reports.

The municipality intervened and helped the firefighters with what was necessary, including water and equipment. “We also helped to lodge the persons who were affected,” representatives of the City Hall posted on Facebook.


The fire was fully extinguished on Sunday night, after 82 rescuers and firefighters with 24 units of equipment of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations struggled to contain the blaze for hours.  

The fire broke out in a storehouse located at 26 Alexandru cel Bun St and destroyed over 1,000 square meters of goods and kiosks. As many as 44 employees of the General Police Inspectorate and the General Inspectorate of Carabineers ensured public order and the safety of people at the scene.

While dealing with the fire, the firefighters faced a low pressure of water in street hydrants. Afterward, employees of the antifire experimental laboratory of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations worked on the spot to determine the circumstances and the cause of fire. Specialists will present their versions later. No victims were reported as a result of the fire, the Ministry of the Interior’s Inspectorate said in a press release. It was earlier reported that the fire occurred on the territory of the Central Market of the capital city, which is managed by the Chisinau City Hall.
