A municipal youth center based in Ciocana district of Chisinau opened its doors to all the young people aged between 14 and 35. The services provided there are free of charge for this category of people. The opening of the center was possible within the framework of a partnership between the municipality and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, IPN reports.
The center’s manager Petru Grecu said all the young people interested in volunteering, IT, robotics and debates and those who simply want to amuse themselves and spend the leisure time nicely can visit the center between 9am and 8pm on any weekday. The institution is to hire four specialists who will work with the young people. Youth organizations will also be involved in the process.
Attending the event, acting mayor of Chisinau Ruslan Codreanu said the first contribution made by the municipality is of 100,000 lei, but they will rectify the municipal budget so that 850,000 lei could be annually allocated to the center. The institution will have ten employees. The result of the work done by the young people should gladden them and, eventually, the residents of the municipality, through the solutions they will find. “What we want is more ideas from the young people for developing the city,” stated the official.
Secretary of state at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research Radu Rebeja said the Ministry so far signed partnership agreements for opening such young centers with 20 local public authorities. “I hope the number of centers will rise the next few years and these centers will become popular with the young people,” he noted.
The same day, there was launched a programs of grants intended for young people from the municipality of Chisinau, with a budget of 300,000 lei. The projects will center on the development of youth services, opportunities for the young people, economic opportunities for the youth, etc. Initiative groups of young people and noncommercial youth organizations can apply for such grants. These must contribute at least 20% of the project’s total budget.
