Vladimir Sarban has returned, on Thursday morning, June 8 to his workplace as Secretary of Chisinau Municipal Council, after more than a year and a half of inactivity due to the period of investigation, detention, and lawsuit. According to Vladimir Sarban, his return is due to the irrevocable decision taken on Wednesday, June 7, by the Court of Chisinau’s Centru district. After informing the Mayoralty’s leadership about the cancellation of his dismissal, Sarban resumed his activity at 8:00 AM exactly, entering the office which was repaired and refurnished in his absence. Interviewed exclusively by Info-Prim Neo, Vladimir Sarban declared that he came back to his workplace according to the legislation in force. The reason for his suspension from office has been totally consumed, as the ground for his abeyance was the fact of detention and the impossibility to carry on his duties as secretary of Municipal Council. “The court decided to satisfy my complaint taking into consideration the fact all the witnesses were interrogated, thus I am not anymore detained and can resume my work tasks”, said Vladimir Sarban. Asked about a the possibility that the municipal councilors will oppose complying with the decision of the court, Sarban declared that the councilors can not dispute this decision which is irrevocable, if they claim they work in a law-based state, although he does not exclude “some surprises”. Also on Thursday, June 8, the sitting of the Municipal Council is scheduled, at which was supposed to be discussed the interim office of the Council’s Secretary, during the vacation of the interim’s secretary, Nicolae Manastarli. Vladimir Sarban considers this fact is a coincidence, because no one could have guessed that the court would satisfy the request a day earlier. The secretary of Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) Vladimir Sarban was arrested in November 2004 shortly before the electoral campaign for the Parliamentary elections. Sarban is accused of having changed the decision of CMC from November 12, 2002 on purchasing 40 ambulances, introducing deliberately the words “… and signing the contract” with the aim to offer supplementary rights to the General Mayor of Chisinau, Serafim Urechean. Sarban pleads not guilty and declares that the lawsuit has political subtext.
