The municipal program of financial support for in vitro fertilization will be relaunched on March 1, the head of the Health Division Vladimir Bolocan announced in the ordinary meeting of officials of municipal services, IPN reports.

"We are starting to sign the agreements for 2025 (with the specialized clinics) so that the program continues from March 1. We continue the good practice we had," said Bolocan.

The provisional municipal budget for this year contains 5.5 million lei for this purpose. In the draft budget, the allocation of 6 million lei is requested, said the officials.

Last year, 79 couples benefited from support under this program launched in 2023.

Under the regulation, the beneficiaries are infertile women or couples who have not previously applied for in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures under the national program, financed by the National Health Insurance Company. The beneficiaries cannot access both programs at the same time. The woman should have lived on a permanent basis for at least two years on the territory of Chisinau municipality.

Initially, couples or the single woman, as the case may be, must contact the family doctor at the place of residence for the necessary primary examinations that are carried out free of charge for those who have health policy (people without an insurance policy will pay for the mandatory checkups). Subsequently, the applicants will be referred to the Local Evaluation Commission of the Territorial Medical Association for the assessment of eligibility and issuance of the confirming documents required for the IVF procedure.

Based on the medical conclusions of eligibility, the couple or single woman will submit the application for inclusion in the municipal program for financial compensation of the IVF procedure by presenting a number of documents.

The medically assisted human reproduction program initiated by the Chisinau City Hall can benefit 100 people or couples annually.
