Municipal councilor of the Party of Communists Adrian Domentiuc was caught with a car crammed with electoral materials without documents of origin. According to the police, everything happened after the car was picked up at the special parking lot for irregular parking. MP of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists Diana Caraman announced that the local elected official was detained, but the General Police Inspectorate denied this fact.
Diana Caraman said that in the councilor’s car, which was allegedly searched, there were electoral leaflets urging to vote “NO” in the October 20 referendum. “Not a day goes by without abuses by the police in relation to the representatives of the PCRM, which is one of the two parties that promote the “No” option in the referendum,” stated the MP. According to Caraman, these actions represent the government’s attempts to intimidate political opponents.
The MP said that the police’s actions were justified by the fact that each campaigner must have a document confirming the right to campaign. And those who carry leaflets must have a document that would confirm that the person was sent the leaflets from the central committee and that he/she has the right to transport them to be distributed.
Contacted by IPN for a comment, the head of the Communication and Protocol Division of the General Police Inspectorate Diana Fetco refuted the detention of communist municipal councilor Adrian Domentiuc. “The person’s car was picked up at the special parking lot for irregular parking. Subsequently, during the procedure for releasing the means of transport, the police noticed that the car was loaded. When asked what he was carrying, the man avoided answering and categorically refused to open the car. The documentation procedure was started, then he opened the transport unit, in which electoral materials were found, without documents of origin,” stated Diana Fetco.
The General Police Inspectorate is to notify the Central Election Commission and the State Tax Service so that they pronounce on the case.
