Municipal councillor calls his colleagues to declare their wealth

Municipal councillor Oleg Cernei, member of the "Our Moldova” Alliance faction, called his colleagues from the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) to declare their property as of the date following the local elections in 2003, as well as its value on expiry of their mandates. This request has been made during the CMC meeting on Thursday, March 15. Info-Prim Neo reports According to Oleg Cernei, each councillor should declare the assets that he owns, keeping in mind the disseminated information on the fact that many councillors have taken advantage of their mandates in the CMC to promote and lobby their businesses, thus causing losses of exorbitant amounts to the municipal budget. In order to encourage his colleagues to make their property public, Cernei declared that in 2003 he owned a two-room apartment, a plot and a 13-square meter office. Close to the expiry of his mandate, he owns the same apartment, the same plot, but he has been deprived by the former mayor, Vasile Ursu, of the office he owned. The councillor appealed to media and to competent inspection authorities to verify the material possessions owned by the locally elected officials and the ways these belongings have been acquired.
