Representatives of local public authorities laid garlands of flowers to the monument to the poet Mihai Eminescu sited in the Organ Hall Square, On Monday morning, January 15 The City Hall officials also lais flowers to the poet’s monument in the Public Garden’s Alley of Romanian Literature Classics, where a recital of Eminescu’s poems and meetings with Moldovan writers were held. According to the interim mayor Vasile Ursu, the flowers laid by the municipality to the poet’s monument in his birthday, as well as in the day of his passing on (June 15) “refer to our duty and respect for Eminescu”. Requested by journalists, Ursu recited the poem “Revedere” (“Return”). He said he also knows “Somnoroase pasarele” (Sleepy Birds) and “Luceafarul” (“The Morning Star”), mentioning that he once knew very many poems by Eminescu but, as time passes, he came to remember just about some verses of each. The interim mayor mentioned that “there is so much sensuality and life in Eminescu’s poems you would never find in other poems”. Mihai Eminescu was born in Botosani on January 15, 1850; he debuted in the "Familia" magazine, with his poem “De-as avea”. He was a contributor to "Convorbiri literare" (“Literary Conversations”); he was director of the Central Library in Iasi, a professor, school inspector in the counties of Iasi and Vaslui; editor of the "Curierul de Iasi”(“The Courier of Iasi”) newspaper. He was a friend of Ion Creanga whom he influenced to write. Since 1877 till 1883 he had been the editor, the editor-in-chief of the "Timpul" newspaper, the period in which he wrote the “Scrisorile” (“Epistles”), “Luceafarul” etc. He died on June 15, 1889, being buried in Bucharest at Bellu cemetery. The creation of the writer is composed of 290 poems; prose - “Fat-Frumos din lacrima” (“Prince Charming, The Tear-Begotten”),” Sarmanul Dionis” (“Poor Dionis”), “La aniversare” ("The Anniversary”), “Cezara”; plays - “Amor pierdut – Viata pierduta” (“Lost Love – Lost Live”), “Mira”, “Muresanu”, “Decebal”, “Gruia Sanger”, “Bogdan Dragos” etc.
