Munich Security Conference is a good possibility for Moldova to present its position, opinion

The International Munich Security Conference is a good possibility for Moldova to present its position and to make itself heard. The participation by President Igor Dodon in this event is a kind of niche for Igor Dodon in the West. The issue was developed in the talk show “Key issue” on NTV Moldova channel, IPN reports.

Journalist Valery Demidetskii said the Munich Security Conference does not adopt important decisions, but the positions of each state are being listened to there. “For a small country like Moldova that is limited in its mechanisms and does not play important roles in world politics, it is important to be present on such platforms and to present its position so as to be heard,” he stated.

According to the journalist, the Filip Government and President Igor Dodon do not have great contradictions as to the resolving of the Transnistrian dispute. The conditions needed for the conflict to be settled haven’t been yet created, but the Republic of Moldova should prepare its agenda for the moment when a consensus is reached.

Political analyst Corneliu Ciurea said the Republic of Moldova should take part in such events, especially in sessions were they discuss problems of the region. The government was very pragmatic and didn’t send a presentative to this platform because it wanted to avoid Moldova having two distinct voices on the international area. “It is good that there is particular seriousness in this regard. If there is a high-ranking representative who speaks from such an important rostrum, this should not have opponents from the same country as this will be a sign of unseriousness,” stated the analyst, noting this Conference is not enough to say that President Dodon was accepted in the EU and in the West in general.

During February 15-17, President Igor Dodon is taking part in the International Munich Security Conference. According to the presidential press service, in the event President Dodon presented the main theses of the concept “Comprehensive Package for Moldova”. Earlier, Igor Dodon said this is a balanced foreign policy concept based on Moldova’s permanent neutrality status.
