Multiannual Good Governance program discussed by Premier and British Ambassador

The UK will continue to provide consultancy and assistance to the Republic of Moldova in ensuring the transformations needed in justice and public administration so that these bring real changes, including through the multiannual program Good Governance, British Ambassador to Moldova Philip Batson said in a meeting with Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet on September 14, IPN reports.

The program will provide expertise, training and assistance to the governments of the Eastern Partnership and Balkan states – Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. For 2015-2016, the Good Governance Fund will allocate £20 million for helping the mentioned states to do political and economic reforms “The British expertise can play an important role in implementing the reforms needed for ensuring stability in the region and the UK is ready to join the international partners in these efforts,” stated Philip Batson.

The ambassador noted that the signing of the Association Agreement in 2014 was a key moment in the relationship between Moldova and the EU and voiced hope that the reforms the Government wants to do will allow the benefits of the accord to be felt by the Moldovan people.

Valeriu Strelet underlined the importance of the assistance provided by the UK in the process of making democratic, economic and social changes in Moldova and reiterated Moldova’s interest in strengthening the commercial-economic relations with the UK. He pleaded for a more active involvement of the British investors in the Moldovan economy.

There are 212 companies with British companies working in Moldova. Investments in their registered capital total about 465 million lei.
