Mud from Chisinau Wastewater Treatment Station removed completely
“The shame of the capital city and of the republic – the mud collected at the Wastewater Treatment Station – does not exist anymore. The 250,000 cubic meters of mud gathered on 32 hectares of platforms were buried in special depots”, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said at Monday's ordinary meeting of the City Hall.
According to the mayor, 250,000 cubic meters of mud had been dried in geotubes and buried in special places from September 19, 2009 until August 1, 2010, including 190,000 cubic meters of mud collected this year.
Apa-Canal Chisinau director Constantin Becciev said the last batch of mud was deposited before the deadline, on July 29.
There were used 100 geotubes and about 20 tonnes of coagulant, which is an insignificant quantity, Constantin Becciev said. According to him, 70 tonnes of coagulant are used every month to treat the water.
The works to clean the platforms started three days ago and will continue for 10 days, Constantin Becciev said. He thanked his colleagues from a number of municipal divisions for the assistance provided in transporting the mud and added that the unpleasant smell will disappear completely in 1-2 weeks.
