The MPs will vote electronically starting with September 9. MP of the Party of Action and Solidarity Dumitru Alaiba on his Facebook page wrote that the main advantage of electronic voting is the fact that society will be able to see the activity of each MP, vote after vote: what bills they supported and what bills they didn’t support. There was no such information until now, IPN reports.
“Some of the dubious schemes and amendments were often adopted easier as the MPs knew that they were hiding behind a kind of anonymity. There was no history of the behavior of each MP. This way, you will now be able to ask each MP why they supported or rejected one law or another by vote. And this is good,” wrote the PAS MP.
For using the system, the MPs will be issued with a user card according to their seat in the hall. After the vote, the report on the voting result in PDF format will be stored and achieved in an electronic format. Also, the report on the draft normative/administrative legal acts will be posted on the Parliament’s website, noted the pores service of the legislative body.
The electronic vote is a component part of the e-Parliament Information System that was to be implemented until the middle of 2019. A year ago, the secretary general of the then Parliament Adrian Albu said electronic voting cannot be used because the developer wasn’t ready to provide the software. An attempt to implement the electronic voting system was also made in 2014, but this failed owing to the absence of a number of components needed for the proper functioning of the system, such as electronic circulation of documents and a new website of the legislative body.
