MPs to report in Parliament on their activity in PACE

The MPs that are members of Moldova’s permanent delegation at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will be heard by the Parliament at the end of each session, twice a year. A bill in this regard proposed by the Liberal Party was voted on Friday, Info-Prim Neo reports. PL legislator Ana Gutu says that the project brings more transparency and promotes the works of PACE and of the Council of Europe. It also argues the resolutions and recommendations from PACE so that the lawmaking body respects them. According to the bill, the official webpage of the Parliament will display the agenda of the PACE permanent commission’s plenary meetings and reunions, translated in the official language, so that the information is accessible to the large public. Moreover, all the translated European Council conventions signed by Moldova will also be published on the site. The Communist faction opposed the initiative. MP Ina Supac asked if voting the bill meant that the Alliance for European Integration majority would give the opposition the possibility to nominate the head of the Court of Accounts and that of the Central Electoral Commission and if the Broadcasting Code would be reviewed. “So, will you respect the recommendations of the Council of Europe?” she asked. The bill’s author Ana Gutu dismissed Supac’s intervention as irrelevant to this particular bill. The bill was adopted with the votes of the majority.
