MPs to hold extraordinary session

An extraordinary session of Parliament will take place on January 15. The sitting’s agenda includes five items, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the legislative body. The first item in the agenda is a draft decision on the abrogation of a number of Parliament decisions, including concerning the scheduling of presidential elections for January 15. There will be discussed a bill with amendments to the Law on Financial Institutions and the Law on the Securities Market and a bill regarding the allowances for temporary incapacity for work and other social benefits. The MPs will also debate a bill on the institution of the commemorative cross “Participant in the war for defending Moldova’s integrity and independence (1991-1992)”. New presidential elections were to take place on January 15 as the only candidate Marian Lupu did not poll the necessary number of votes in the December 16 elections. The Constitutional Court on January 12 decided that the December 16 elections were unconstitutional because the confidentiality of the vote was infringed. Thus, Parliament is to announce new ordinary presidential elections.
