The lawmakers regard the April 7, 2009 events in a different way. Some call it a day that gave birth to hope, while others name it a black day. However, at the beginning of the April 7 meeting of Parliament, all the MPs observed a moment’s silence in memory of the victims of the April 7, 2009 protests, IPN reports.
Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu said that this day for some represented a day of hope, but now, after time passed, it is a day of disappointment. For others, this is a day of regrets and those events are regarded as a coup. “In this hall, we will probably not find a common opinion about this day. Regretfully, the situation is similar in society, which is divided. On this day we had victims and destruction and I therefore make a call for wisdom and tolerances,” he stated.
The Communists’ leader Vladimir Voronin intervened and said that the events of April 7, 2009 were organized by the same forces that staged similar events in Ukraine and other states.
The leader of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon noted that April 7, 2009 was a black day in the country’s history, when a coup was attempted and those who profited from those events are now in power.
Lib-Dem Vadim Pistrinciuc said the MPs will not reach a consensus about these events, but they all should understand that April 7 was a massive protest mounted by young people. The people take to the streets because they have to and this day should teach the lesson – the people cannot be manipulated forever.
Liberal MP Lilian Carp said the victims of those events will not be forgotten, while those to blame will be always haunted by the faces of these persons and should not think that they will avoid punishment.
On April 7, 2009, the people took to the streets to protest against the results of the April 5 parliamentary elections that were won again by the Communists. The protests, which involved mainly young people, degenerated into violence and both civilians and police officers suffered injuries. Only the death of Valeriu Boboc is officially recognized as having occurred during those events.
