Democratic MP Nicolae Ciubuc said that the decision of the minister of justice to cancel the results of the contest for the position of General Prosecutor is a complete failure. The Democrat said that although the parliamentary majority has promised that state institutions would be depoliticized, the opposite is occurring. The Socialist MP Grigore Novac said that this decision clearly shows an interference of the executive in the judicial branch. Alexandru Slusari, PPDA MP, said that the pre-selection commission's vote was vitiated by one of the members of the commission and that Maia Sandu exercised political assumption.
"This contest, which was canceled today, is perfectly in line with the current government's attempts to appoint subservient people and to further politicize institutions. It is regrettable that only now have we remembered about the principle of separation of powers in the state, although we have already witnessed violations of this principle when the amendment to the Law on the Prosecutor's Office was enacted", said Nicolae Ciubuc on Moldova 1 public station night show "Butonul roșu".
Socialist MP Grigore Novac said that the decision to cancel the contest for the position of General Prosecutor and for the government to esercise political assumption for the Law on the Prosecutor's Office, clearly represents an interference of the executive power in the judiciary branch. The MP said that the contest was organized under the aegis of the minister of justice and that the members of the pre-selection committee cannot be suspected of being supporters of any political parties. "The politicization of the General Prosecutor's Office is attempted. This is a clear interference aiming to appoint a certain candidate to the position of General Prosecutor, by avoiding the contest", said Grigore Novac.
Deputy Parliament Speaker Alexandru Slusari, PPDA MP, said that after the transfer of power occurred, many MPs had doubts regarding the organization of contests for various public functions, considering that state institutions were captured. Alexandru Slusari said that on numerous occasions he was asked to appoint certain persons via political assumption. "All the competitions that were held, unfortunately, failed. We witnessed how four members of the PSRM legal committee offered a maximum score to the candidate who won the contest for the head of the CNA. Other contests were similarly conducted. When we exercised political assumption, the mechanism worked. When we had contests, we witnessed that every time the score was vitiated. (...) The Prime Minister Maia Sandu's gesture is a political undertaking", said the MP.
The editorialist Nicolae Negru said that he does not understand why the Socialists are revolting now, when the government is undertaking to change the Law on the Prosecutor's Office, since the Socialists previously accepted a political interference in the process of selecting the General Prosecutor, namely the creation of the pre-selection commission, which was not provided for by the legislation. "The PDM addressed the Constitutional Court, which replied that everything was in order and did not intervene. Currently, Maia Sandu took a consistent decision. If the Constitutional Court is addressed, I wonder how will it intervene, considering that it took the wrong path from the very beginning", said the journalist.
On Wednesday, November 6, the Minister of Justice, Olesea Stamate, announced that she will issue an order canceling the results of the contest for the position of Prosecutor General on the grounds that the members of the pre-selection commission have received additional information regarding some candidates. Subsequently, Prime Minister Maia Sandu announced that the Government is taking responsibility to amend the Law on the Prosecutor's Office, which will be discussed in Parliament.
