Liberal lawmakers Valeriu Saharneanu and Vadim Cojocaru said the Liberal Party (PL) needs to be reformed and there is only one Liberal faction in Parliament – that led by Ion Hadarca, IPN reports.
The lawmakers were asked to state their opinion after the deputy chairwoman of the PL Corina Fusu said that the Liberal faction held a meeting and decided to exclude from the faction five of the seven MPs who constituted the Council for Reforming the Liberal Party. Valeriu Saharneanu and Vadim Cojocaru are expected to return to the party. Corina Fusu also said that Valeriu Munteanu was named as head of the Liberal faction instead of Ion Hadarca.
Valeriu Saharneanu has told IPN that the party is in need of changes and he should not be invited to another camp as his position is firm. He stressed that there is only one faction of the PL, which includes most of the Liberal MPs.
Vadim Cojocaru said that he forms part of no camp, but is a member of the Liberal faction that has been led by Ion Hadarca since the 2010 parliamentary elections. According to him, he continues to be a member of the Liberal faction and has no where to go back.
On the other hand, Corina Fusu said that the faction that supports Mihai Ghimpu is waiting for the two MPs to return. “Given that Saharneanu and Cojocaru weren’t excluded from the party, they keep their status of Liberal MPs and we consider them members of the Liberal faction. We are waiting for them to come back. The people change their convictions and ideas. Anyway, the two didn’t organize betrayal actions,” she stated.
Corina Fusu also said that it is for the first time in the history of the Moldovan political parties that a group of people with opposite ideas say they are the image of the party and the carriers of its flag. “They are usurpers who try to steal what does not belong to them. The party’s image is represented by other persons,” she added.
After the Council for Reforming the Liberal Party was created, five of the seven Liberal MPs who formed part of it were excluded from the PL. On April 18, Ghimpu’s Liberals demanded excluding the five from the Liberal faction. Ghimpu said that Vadim Cojocaru and Valeriu Saharneanu were manipulated and may return to them.
The Liberal faction consists of 12 members. The seven from the reforming group have the majority.
