MPs return to bill on commissions charged by Work and Travel agencies

The students who will go to work abroad through Work and Travel agencies will pay a commission of at most US$500 to them. On June 8, the Parliament annulled the June 7 vote and voted again on the bill, Info-Prim Neo reports. Liberal MP Valeriu Munteanu said the vote was nullified for the reason that those who counted the votes did not take into account that lawmaker Gheorghe Mocanu did not attend the sitting. When put again to the vote, the bill was passed by the votes of 51 MPs. The head of the Parliament’s commission on economy, budget and finance Veaceslav Ionita said the Work and Travel agencies often work based on forged documents and thus should be licensed so that they are subject to inspections more often. The Summer Work and Travel Program in Moldova, which is administered by the U.S. Department of State, is a cultural exchange program that allows the university students to take part in educational and cultural exchange programs over a period of at most four months, during their summer vacation.
