MPs request Government to clear up deportees issue
MP Stefan Secareanu suggested that Parliament should hear a representative for the Government or Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev himself to get clear information on how the law on retrocession of confiscated property is actually implemented.
Secareanu made this proposal after he and other MPs from Opposition met with the former deportees who staged a protest rally in front of the Parliament building on Friday. “We must know what the Government’s opinion on this matter is”, said Secareanu, who went on to propose to have civil society representatives at the respective sitting. He also conveyed to the other MPs that the former deportees were looking to meet with the leadership of Parliament and the representatives of the ruling party.
The question of the former deportees was raised in Parliament earlier on Friday. Several Opposition MPs criticised Parliament for not ensuring that the respective law is properly enforced so that the former deportees can get back the property that had been forcibly taken by the Soviet regime.
The Association of Former Deportees picketed Friday the Parliament building after protesting in front of the Government building a day before. The protesters seek the modification of the official documents that establish the conditions of recovering the confiscated property and ask for a number of benefits.
