MPs pass amendments concerning student voting in first reading
The Parliament adopted amendments that facilitate student voting to the Election Code in first reading, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Under the bill, the students who have the domicile in another settlement than the one where they study will be able to vote at any local polling place using the identity card and the student card, after filling out a form whereby they pledge not to vote at another polling station.
The Communist faction did not support the bill, saying it is not right to change the rules during the game. The Election Code provides that the electoral legislation can be modified not later than half a year before elections.
Acting President Mihai Ghimpu replied that offering all the people the possibility of exercising the right to vote does not mean forcing the voting.
