MPs of PPEM will discuss with Ion Sturza

The group of MPs of the European People’s Party (PPEM) led by Iurie Leanca will take part in discussions with the candidate for Prime Minister Ion Sturza. Iurie Leanca informed about this on his Facebook page, IPN reports.

The politician said that after the consultations with President Nicolae Timofti, he discussed with his colleagues Ion Sturza’s candidacy. “In the previous consultations with the head of state, after eight weeks of delay, lack of action and of understanding of the tragic situation in the country, it’s normal for the head of state to make use of his constitutional right and field a candidate. We will yet see if this candidate shows interest to convince us that he is suitable for this post and has systemic solutions to the multiple challenges faced by the Republic of Moldova, and if he has all the necessary instruments to put these priorities into practice,” Leanca wrote in his message.

The lawmakers of the PPEM decided that if Ion Sturza asks for a meeting with them, they will go to discuss with him. “I want to remind that the PPEM presented eight main priorities for the future government. We will see if Mister Sturza agrees with them and shares them, if he convinces us that he has capacities. I would be very curious to find out from Mister Sturza where he took the information according to which President Timofti was to propose me for premiership on behalf of the PDM. It would have been better to form an alliance first, but everything happened in a Moldovan style. We now have no other option and want to see how these discussions end,” said Iurie Leanca.

So far the Democrats said they will not discuss with the candidate for premiership, as the group of 14 lawmakers who left the Party of Communists stated. The Socialists announced they will vote no candidate for Prime Minister and want early elections to take place. The Lib-Dems and Liberals and the Communists who remained in the parliamentary group haven’t made public their positions.

To become Prime Minister, Ion Sturza needs to garner at least 51 votes of MP. The candidate is to seek a vote of confidence in Parliament within 15 days of his designation by the head of state.
