MPs of ACUM bloc initiate motion against minister of justice

MPs of the ACUM bloc will put forward a simple motion against minister of justice Fadei Nagachevski for the reason that the Ministry of Justice hasn’t adopted a strategic approach to the problems faced by the judiciary system in Moldova over three weeks after the formation of the new Government, IPN reports.

The MPs said the modification of the composition of the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) and the Board of this is the only preoccupation of the Ministry of Justice as they aim to eventually have increased control over the judiciary. Since the new Government was appointed on November 14, Fadei Nagachevski, who is a lawful member of the SCM, has never appeared at the Council’s meetings, blocking thus its activity and the possibility of solving internal problems of the judicial system.

According to the MPs, the minister of justice on December 6 will have a discussion with judges and members of the SCM, which he called “mediation”. By such acts the minister evidently abuses his power and interferes in the work of the judiciary.

The policy concerning the justice sector reform pursued by the current Ministry undermines the independence of the judicial system through the establishment of political control.

Earlier, the MPs of the ACUM bloc initiated a simple motion against Minister of Defense Victor Gaiciuc. This was examined by the Parliament’s Standing Bureau, but was short of votes for being debated in a plenary sitting.
