The members of Moldova’s Parliament observed a minute’s silence in memory of the victims of the war in Ukraine. “Our people have always stood by those who suffer. Surely, what is most tragic is that innocent people became victims of this war,” said Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu.
“We all follow the developments in Ukraine with concern and with soul pain. As citizens, we do our best to help the refugees. You probably know that the inflow of refugees is coming closer to 400,000. Out of these, about 100,000 stopped in the Republic of Moldova. Over 40,000 are children, young people, while the rest are women and older people,” stated the Speaker.
The President of Russia Vladimir Putin on February 24 announced a “special military operation” in Donbas. Shelling started immediately, in a number of cities. Ukraine decreed a state of emergency. Hundreds of thousands of people had to flee their homes away from the war. The casualties among civilians grow daily. Almost 100 of those killed are children. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine. It adopted a resolution saying Russia committed serious violations in Ukraine, including attacking of civilian targets and humanitarian corridors, use of artillery, rockets and bombs without discernment and taking of hostages, IPN reports.
