MPs defend own cause
A statement made by the Liberal-Democrat faction at the start of the July 9 sitting of the Parliament provoked sparks. From the central rostrum, Liberal-Democrat MP Ion Butmalai congratulated the lawmakers on the opening of the Romanian consulates in Cahul and Balti, saying the PLDM fulfilled thus one of the promises it made in the electoral campaign. The statement made the MPs of the other factions representing the Alliance for European Integration angry, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Ion Butmalai thanked Romania's President Traian Basescu and Prime Minister Emil Boc as well as Moldovan Premier Vlad Filat, the chairman of the PLDM, for contributing to opening the consulates.
The president of honor of the Democratic Party Dumitru Diacov was the first to react. He said no populist statements will be made from the Parliament's rostrum from now on.
The leader of the Moldova Noastra Alliance Serafim Urecheanu was very angry. He said only yesterday they backed in Parliament a bill proposed by the PLDM to show that the Alliance is a team. He stressed the statement made by the leader of the Liberal-Democrat faction Mihai Godea, who said the mafia started to control the Parliament too, is denigrating. Serafim Urecheanu said if similar statements are made, the government coalition will see its end coming.
