The doors of the Republic Palace which host the Parliament's sessions will be blocked and the parliamentarians will be kept inside until they elect the head of state. This could happen on May 1, if the MPs fail to elect the president by then. The plan will be put in action by a group of activists called the Civil Society Congress. “If until May 1 the Parliament doesn't elect the president of the country, and the Government doesn't take measures, together with the legislature, to resolve the existing major problems of society, we will declare an ultimatum to our parliamentarians”, stated Fiodor Ghelici, a member of the group. Another event which the group plans to hold on May 1 is a rally in support of consumers rights. “We call on all the citizens of Moldova to join this general rally in order to defend consumers rights and protest against the recent rise in gas, electricity, heat and food prices”, stated Stefan Demian, a lawyer within the group. Igor Caldare, the former director of the National Standardization Institute, told the same news conference that, every week until May 1, the group will launch proposals to the Government to solve the existing problems faced by the country.
