MPs appalled at situation of Medicine Agency’s Laboratory

The MPs in the inquiry committee for the pharmaceutical market were appalled at the situation of the Medicine Agency’s Laboratory. The parliamentarians visited the institution on Tuesday. Democratic Party MP Valentina Stratan is now at doubt whether the Laboratory can provide reliable verdicts on the quality of drugs, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We’ve seen the anti-sanitary conditions in which the staff works and it’s been so not for a day or two, but for years. There are piles of useless things, of old folders, expired reagents, unmarked samples. In such conditions, verifying and certifying drugs takes months and all this time producers have to keep their products in stores”, said Valentina Stratan. The investigation committee called a meeting with representatives of public medical-sanitary institutions to discuss the way procurement of drugs is done. Liberal MP and committee head Gheorghe Brega declared after the meeting that there were several cases to be investigated. According to him, a company won tens of pharmaceutical tenders, but rarely fulfilled its contractual obligations. Many representatives of medical-sanitary institutions complained about frequent cases when companies win the tender at the beginning of the year, but the first medicine supplies arrive only in June-July. Gheorghe Brega recommended these institutions to go to court whenever they notify the Medicine Agency, as it is the latter’s responsibility to intervene and terminate unworkable contracts. The members of the inquiry committee added that the quality of active substances in the medicine should matter more than the lowest price proposed by bidders.
