Parliament passed in the final reading a bill to ratify the third Additional Protocol to the European Convention on Extradition that was signed by Moldova on April 12, 2013. The protocol institutes a simplified mechanism for applying the extradition procedure in case of persons who consent to extradition to the applicant state, IPN reports.
The statement on the person’s consent to be extradited to the competent authorities of the applicant state will be registered by proceedings in accordance with the legislation of the requested state. The person will benefit from all the procedural guarantees stipulated in the legislation of each side, especially from the services of a lawyer and interpreter.
The third Additional Protocol to the European Convention on Extradition was drafted by experts of the Council of Europe and was opened for signature in Strasbourg on November 10, 2010. The law is to be promulgated by the President of the Republic of Moldova and will take effect three months after its ratification.
