The VAT rate for food products and/or drinks will be reduced to 6% with some exceptions. A bill to introduce measures to support the companies operating in the hospitality industry during the state of emergency and the state of public health emergency was given two readings on April 23, IPN reports.
The document stipulates exceptions for alcoholic products, preparations accompanied by related services that would enable the immediate consumption of these. Bill authors, MPs of the Shor Party, said a special taxation regime for business entities of the hospitality industry is needed following multiple restrictions imposed on these companies that generated enormous losses, salary cuts and layoffs.
Earlier, PAS MPs Dan Perciun and Radu Marian registered a similar legislative initiative providing for the reduction of the VAT rate for the hospitality industry form 12% to 5%, elimination of delay penalties on the payment of taxes and offering of a salary bonus of 500 lei a week from the state to employees of companies with a shortened work program (until 8pm).
