MPs adopt action plan for reforming justice sector

The action plan for implementing the justice sector reform stagy for 2011-2016 was agreed by a majority of votes in the February 16 sitting of Parliament, Info-Prim Neo reports. Minister of Justice Oleg Efrim said the putting of the justice sector reform stagy into practice depends directly on the approval of the plan of action. “The plan includes measures for every pillar of the strategy. It will be implemented at a cost of about 2 billion lei, but the figures are adjusted annually,” said the minister. The investments in new constructions and reconstruction and in the designing of information programs are the largest. “€124 million are the costs determined for five years. What we will not be able to get from donors we will have to obtain from budgetary resources. The amounts earmarked for 2012 are enough for implementing the planned measures,” said Oleg Efrim. Veronica Abramciuc, of the group of Socialists, said the experts who drafted the justice sector reform stagy and the action plan were paid in dollars, not in lei and this is not right. According to her, the remuneration of US$50 a day is larger than the daily salary of the President and is exaggerated for Moldova. The minister of justice replied that in order to motivate the good specialists to work, they must be paid well. Liberal-Democrat MP Tudor Deliu said the costs are indeed high, but the success of the reform cannot be ensured without investments.
