The Union of Volunteers of Moldova said the MPs fully ignore the Transnistrian issue. The Union’s chairman Sergiu Caracai said a series of provocations on the part of the anti-constitutional Transnistrian regime were needed for Parliament to vote a joint statement on June 21. But its content shows that there is no common approach and no political responsibility for resolving the dispute, IPN reports.
According to Sergiu Caracai, the work of the parliamentary parties reveals that they are unable to ensure national consensus and to show political will without which the Transnistrian conflict cannot be settled. “The Republic of Moldova enjoys unprecedented support from the EU. But this does not mean that the rulers have the right to camouflage their indifference to the Transnistrian issue behind the efforts made by the EU. Even the prospect of liberalizing the visa regime for Moldovans requires that they take definite steps,” he stated.
The members of the Union of Volunteers of Moldova called on the Government to adopt a pro-active position over the realities existing in Transnistria and to unify and mobilize society.
On July 21, it will be 21 years of the signing of the agreement on the peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict in Moscow. Sergiu Caracai considers that this agreement transformed the Transnistrian regime into an instrument used by Russia to blackmail Moldova. Russia set an imbalanced format of the peacekeeping operation and acts as a protection shield for the Transnistrian regime.
The Union of Volunteers called upon society to mobilize, while upon the Government to initiate an honest and sincere dialogue with the people so as to resolve the dispute that has lasted for 21 years.
