The vice president of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” (PPPDA) Alexandru Slusari said the water losses last year constituted 53% of the volume of water supplied to the consumers in Chisinau. This shows the inhabitants of Chisinau lost over 250 million lei owing to the poor management of a monopolist enterprise. SA “Apă-Canal Chisinau” (ACC) replied the given information is not true and it is not clear how the given sum was calculated as the losses in 2019 represented 34%, not 53%, as the MP asserted, IPN reports.
“I’m afraid things in other public services areas stand as badly. We will never overcome poverty if the responsible bodies do not penalize the thieves and the responsible people will not identify a group of honest persons for managing public affairs,” MP Alexandru Slusari posted on Facebook.
The ACC said the public water supply and sewerage service is strictly regulated and SA “Apă-Canal Chisinau” is permanently supervised by the National Agency for Energy Regulation, the fiscal authorities, the local public authorities, the Competition Council, other inspection bodies and civil society.
“In 2019, the volume of losses of SA “Apă-Canal Chisinau” represented 34%, not 53% as Mister Alexandru Slusari stated in his posting. Moreover, this level during the past few years has decreased. Compared with other national operators whose systems are worn-out, the water supply system in Chisinau generates a relatively low volume of technological consumption and water losses, similar to the losses sustained by the operators in large cities in other states,” the water supplier said in a press release.
According to the ACC, the losses of water are an indispensable element of any water supply system and are also a consequence of the stealing by bad-intentioned persons. Neither the company, not another operator can include in the tariff the costs associated with the technological consumption and water losses above the level approved by the responsible authorities, while the costs that can be associated with these volumes are only the variable ones. “We consider these assertions are groundless and harm the operator’s dignity and image and demand that the defamatory information be denied publicly,” stated the water supplier.
