MP Vasile Iovv says organizers of April protests wanted victims
Communist MP Vasile Iovv was questioned as a witness in the cases related to the April 2009 events on March 31. He said the organizers of the protests wanted victims and they incited the police to violence, but the police officers did not have guns, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Asked by the journalists who staged the protests, the MP said that those who 'reserved' the Great National Assembly Square for protests before April 7 should answer this question.
“There were acts of vandalism. The Prosecutor's Office is to establish who and why threw stones. Protesters' actions were coordinated and pursued a goal. It is the investigation bodies that should determine if it was an attempted coup,” Vasile Iovv said.
Asked what he did on April 7, 2009, Iovv said he was in the office of the then Head of Parliament Marian Lupu and saw when the protesters started to throw stones.
The MP also said that he does not think the prosecutors will ever clarify those events as it is almost a year since then, but nothing was done. The police officers defended themselves, but did not shoot at the young people, he said.
The leader of the Communist parliamentary group Maria Postoiko and Communist MP Igor Dodon are expected to present themselves at the Prosecutor's Office tomorrow, April 1.
