Valerian Bejan, one of the authors of the law that bans the use of plastic bags, will request the expert parliamentary commission to apply parliamentary control over the implementation of the regulation. The request was made because the law took effect almost a month ago, but a body that would check how the imposed bans are respected hasn’t been yet assigned.

Contacted by IPN, Valerian Bejan said the Government has a duty to implement the law and manages the control bodies. Sufficient time was offered to business entities for these to comply with the new provisions.

“A law was adopted and the Government is to implement it,” stated the Liberal MP. He noted that if the law is not applied, parliamentary control will be exercised. Valerian Bejan added he will request to hold parliamentary hearings on the issue.

As of January 1, 2019, it is banned using plastic bags whose thickness is equal to or higher than 50 microns. These bags are thicker than the bags by which the people usually take purchases from shops home. The given bags are thinner than 50 microns and will be banned as of January 1, 2020.
