MP suggests extending mandate of commission of inquiry into June “anticonstitutional putsch”

MP of the DA Platform of the ACUM Bloc Dinu Plîngău proposes extending the mandate of the special commission of inquiry into the attempted anticonstitutional putsch of June 7-14, 2019. In a press briefing, the MP, former secretary of the commission, said the commission’s mandate expired, but no final report was presented to the MPs. He registered with the Parliament’s Secretariat a draft decision on the extension of the mandate so that the report could be adopted by the MPs, IPN reports.

According to Dinu Plîngău, the materials accumulated so far contain very interesting information, including about illegalities committed by persons who held responsible posts in that period. If his draft decision is rejected, the information he possesses will be presented as a synopsis of all the events.

He expressed his bewilderment at the fact that, as an MP and as a member of the commission, he was denied access to secret information obtained from state institutions. Particular actions inside the commission showed the presentation of the report is not wanted.

The special commission of inquiry into the anticonstitutional putsch attempted by the Democratic Party was set up by Parliament on June 18, 2019. On June 7-14, 2019, after the Party of Socialists and the ACUM Bloc created the parliamentary majority and appointed the Sandu Government, the buildings of the state institutions had been blocked for a week. The Constitutional Court (CC) ruled that the new parliamentary majority was formed illegally. In the period, there were two governments, one led by Maia Sandu and another one led by Pavel Filip. On June 14, the Democratic Party announced that it decided to withdraw from power. Later, the CC members annulled the decisions taken in that period.

The current president of the CC Vladimir Țurcanu was the first chairman of the commission. After he was chosen CC judge, the commission was managed by the MP of the PAS group of the ACUM Bloc Mihai Popșoi. At the start of last December, he tendered his resignation. The commission is now led by Socialist MP Vasile Bolea.
